Help my son wants to quit school to do Youtube
This is a question from Quora.
My 16-year-old son dropped school for his YouTube channel (64 subscribers). How do I convince him to go back to school?
I would suggest a little reality therapy. Charge him rent for his room, meals, laundry service, and his percentage of the utilities, for as long as he's out of school.
He can work some of that off by attending alternative high school. Many school districts have these alternative options. If your school district doesn't have some thing like this, then check with your public library or community colleges for GED prep classes. He won't make enough on YouTube with only 64 subscribers.
He could work off more of his costs by taking GED prep tests and career aptitude tests by from companies like Learning Express and Gale's Testing and Educational Reference powered. by Peterson's.
This is not a bad deal. Not all students do well in the typical high school. But check with the teacher and/or the internet logs to make sure that he logs the required hours and he achieves the daily and weekly milestones, before crediting him for his hours of study.
He needs to make up every dollar that is not credited with a part-time job. Any prices for a tutor, tuition, or for a proctor will be added to his bill. If he doesn't make what he owes, he can't make his videos.
In the end, he will get a GED and get on his way to a good job, or he can go back to school and be freed from all other requirements.
